The basic premise behind this odd sounding natural toenail fungus treatment is to soften nails with beer, create an acidic environment with vinegar which is beneficial to good bacteria and deadly to fungus and then penetrate nails with specific beneficial bacteria to help kill and prevent further recurrences.
Essential Ingredients:
Natural Toenail Fungus Treatment Procedure:
What to look for:
As fungus gets killed by this natural toenail fungus treatment, you will notice new nail growth from the nail base coming in clear. This is a good sign. Some people see clearing at the base within one week and some people see clearing at the base in one month. It all depends on how fast your nails grow and how often you soak them.
It will take about 3 to 6 months for infected nails to completely grow out. As long as you keep seeing the nail base come in clean and grow out cleanly, you are on the right track. If it is not growing in cleanly, keep soaking the nails.
Make sure you do this toenail fungus treatment daily. Make it a routine. Watch some TV, read a book or wash the dishes for 30 minutes. Do not skip a day. If you do, it may take a bit longer than a month but keep at it.
If you know your nails grow slowly, then consider MSM or Silicea 6x cell salts as they have shown to increase nail growth.
This anti-fungal protocol is an excellent way to help prevent liver damage via Lamisil.
If the formula is not strong enough, play with it. Perhaps add some more of the acidophilus to the mix or more vinegar or more beer. Play with the concentrations if necessary.
If you’ve any questions, I’m happy to answer them for you.
I estimated the total cost of this procedure to be about $200.00 That is very inexpensive compared to Lamisil – and much healthier to your liver.
Plus, if you take the acidophilus sachets internally, you are treating a cause of the fungus – not just treating the nails. Lamisil does not restore healthy gut flora thereby recurring nail fungus – the sachets do.
Even if you drink a couple Guiness Stout while you do the soak – it may still be safer than Lamisil on your liver. 🙂
I have had over 42,000 people read this information and a decent percentage email me. It is great to hear that this treatment is working well.
I had one elderly woman with longterm fungal toenails report excellent results.
She also had an unexpected benefit: her plantar warts fell out from the bottom of her feet allowing her to walk comfortably for the first time in years! Her letter is sitting two feet from me. I need to scan it and stick it on here.
If you’re debating whether or not to do this soak, don’t. If you are wondering if it works – it does.
Give it a shot – it is safe, effective, inexpensive. Yes it takes some work, but popping a liver toxic Lamisil pill for 3 months daily also takes work – especially repairing the damaged liver. You only get one liver.
The Sachets and White Vinegar and the Guiness are the proven ingredients.
People have tried other strains of acidophilus from their health store without result. You may try them to see if they work for you but from I have seen, they do not work well.
One factor is that the sachets contain a variety of acidophilus, not just one form and they also contain a specific strain of those types. Why that matters I cannot say but it seems to as those who used a different product did not have success.
Another reason why other bacteria fail to work was found out by my Immunology professor, Dr Sheryl Berman, PhD. She did a study on about 35 different acidophilus companies and found that only one had the actual amount of live bacteria it claimed in the container – some of the companies stated 1 billion live bacteria per capsule and contained…none. The sachets that I provide claim 125 billion per sachet and at manufacturing have 170 billion.
Choosing a different dark beer that is less expensive may hinder your success. I have not had reports of other effective dark beers so I am not sure. You can give it a shot but you are only saving a few bucks while investing 30 days of soaking. That is pennies per day extra. Worth the risk? If you have time, it would be good to know if the others worked…if they do, let me know 🙂
You may find the Acidophilus Sachets here – along with the MSM and Silicea cell salt.
Should you have questions, please comment. I’m here to answer them and help your nails recover!
Enjoy healthy nails once again! It’s summer – put on those sandals!

Please note: Fungus is due to either a weak immune system, trauma to the nail area, high refined carbohydrate diet or recent or long term use of antibiotics.
That said, taking one sachet in a glass of water before dinner for 14 days helps restore healthy gut bacteria which likely has a direct impact on proper immune function, may help combat fungus internally and externally longterm and reduce refined carbohydrate and sugar cravings as the ‘bad’ bacteria which do crave sugar will be wiped out by the beneficial bacteria. So taking the sachets internally for one week, soaking for a few months, changing your diet, building your immune system and not bashing your nails will likely improve your fungus situation.
A mild headache may occur while taking the sachets internally. Taking vitamin C usually helps. The headache is usually due to the ‘die-off’ reaction from unhealthy bacteria being killed by the healthy probiotic found in the sachets.

There are numerous individuals who have done the Beer Soak successfully. It takes daily soaks to get you to the goal you want.
It is necessary to look at diet, immune function, lifestyle and following the information in the instructions.
The outcome is up to you. If you follow the instructions, the Beer Soak works.
If you don’t follow the instructions, it won’t.
Keep us posted how you are doin’ with it should you move forward 😉

Hello Dr. Ben, simply awesome…thank you.. 🙂
The question I have is what if you have foot fungus in conjuntion with nail fungus? The natural cure Iwanted to use for the foot fungus is 1 to 4 vinegar and water. Will the soak for nail fungus perhaps cure the foot fungus or if not, will using separate soaks affect the ability of each other?
Thank you for the “cure” to my question.

The Beer Soak has shown effectiveness for foot fungus as well. If the Beer Soak has shown success in removing nail fungus, it should be even more successful with standard foot fungus.
It is easier for the Beer Soak ingredients to contact the fungus on skin so in theory it should rid foot fungus more easily than nail fungus.
The Beer Soak takes time to rid nail fungus as the fungus is residing under nail beds. It should take less time to rid foot fungus with the Beer Soak as the ingredients are in direct contact with the skin fungus.
Customers have emailed me that their smelly feet symptoms have gone, severe athletes foot has disappeared and plantar warts have literally fallen out which was bothering her for over a decade (she’s over 70)
Hope this helps you.

Dr. Ben:
After spending two months trying to get an appointment to see a podiatrist and spending $100 to get in and see her, it was a total waste of time. I found out that I had get medication thru my primary physician. However, I did get some valuable information – she recommends that I use vinegar to soak my feet. It appears that I have toenail fungus in one of my big toes.
So I come home and found you at your website. Thanks for the solution and I’ll give it a try today.
I believe I got my problem from my husband, the man I share the bed with and has a major toenail fungus for about 10 years. My sister in law tells me that it’s contagious, is it true?
I believe his problem is internal. He once lost his toenail to a door jam and as his toe was healing, he started to use the solution drop clotrimazole during the entire time it took for the nail to grow back but fungus grew back with
his new nail.
Your remedy suggest that oral acidophilus should be taken 1/2 hour before dinner everyday for 14 days, but he’s been having some changes in the past 12 months. He started eating yogurt for breakfast everyday for the last 12 months and he’s also been getting frequent itching on his seat and large cyste/pimples there as well.
Before this all started, he has been spitting up mucus frequently. His ear, nose, and throat doctor and
allergist have not been able to find a solution to his problem.
Can you tell me if taking the oral acidophilus will make things worst for him? I really think his toenail fungus is related to all this.
We look forward to your reply,
Jan

In my opinion, foot and nail fungus is ‘contagious’ if the immune system is down and the internal environment (digestive function) is not up to par. Many people walk in gyms with fungus all over the floor and are fine as their immune function is strong.
Itchy anus in medical terms is pruritis ani and very commonly seen with internal bacterial imbalance or yeast infections as candida. The sachets taken internally right before meals, not 1/2 hr before, have shown to aggravate symptoms in some people in the short term but improve symptoms in the long term.
That is why doctors have recommended taking the sachets for 14 nights right before dinner as this helps ensure that the harmful bacteria/yeast are outnumbered with the beneficial bacteria found in the sachets.
All people are different, have different bacteria, and different causes of problems. That said, it is not known if the sachets will make your husband worse or significantly better. Odds are in favor of improvement given that most people who have taken the sachets with similar symptoms have improved.
Consuming raw garlic, vegetables and fiber sources have been shown to assist in creating a healthy digestive environment. Limiting sugars, breads, alcohol may likely be beneficial as well.
Frequent itching after eating yogurt may be a sign that he should not eat it. The yogurt is likely loaded with sugar. Nancy’s Yogurt is the healthiest yogurt I have seen in stores. Dairy products in general may not be suitable for his digestion or immune function. He may want to avoid dairy especially if he has symptoms of mucous.
I cannot tell you how many people (kids and adults) who have dairy intolerances, not dairy allergies, but dairy intolerance. Their life changed when they eliminated all dairy from their diet. It is not easy to do in the beginning. However, when significant health improvements are obtained, it is easy to avoid dairy.
Significant mucous may be related to weak digestion: low stomach acid, poor pancreatic enzyme secretions, improper gut flora due to past antibiotic use or poor bile secretions from the liver. There may be inflammation in the intestine due to food intolerances, non-beneficial organisms such as yeast (which arrive due to the weak digestion), some genetic condition such as celiac disease or many others.
It may be beneficial for him to see a naturopathic physician. His health may significantly improve.
One of my motto’s: Heal the Gut.
That’s first and most paramount in about 90% of the cases I have seen. One will get lost without proper guidance from a naturopathic physician – it gets complicated finding the root cause of the problem.
Go to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians to find a ND in your area.

I have suffered from finger nail bed infections for the last 10 years, it has spread from 1 to 4 fingers, is painful and ugly. I have tried sporanox and lamisal to no avail, I am desperate for a cure. Can anyone help me?
Thank you for the information on toenail fungus! My brother-in-law has a bad case with smelly feet, so I will pass this along.
In addition to limiting dairy from the diet, I also suggest drinking alkaline water. Everyone I know who has had digestive troubles has had amazing results from it. There is a link on my website to a “colon” movie done by a Japanese man who invented the colonoscopy procedure. Very shocking!!
Natural health and blessings to all,

Doc, I’ve been soaking for about three weeks and my toes seem to be sensitive and sore at times. Is this normal?

This treatment not only works, but also makes our feet feel better.
As for the beer, Guiness is really the only one that I think works.
I tried Pacifico, etc, but the dark Guiness does the trick.
Dear Dr.Ben, Will this beer soak help thick nails, that have
fungus under them. Will the thickness go away after the
nail grows out. I am using fluconazole/itraconazole which
is in liquiod form and you paint It on. 2x a day. Will the beer
soak help clear out the debris from under the nails.!
Thank-you, TAR
I am excited to start this soak. I decided to do this instead of taking medication. I have one question though, after I soak my feet do I wash them off or should I just dry them and then go to bed? Will there be an odor to my feet from the beer and vinegar?
Ben,
I noticed after doing one round of the soak for a month, that it recurrs if you don’t continue to soak until the spots are completely grown out. Have you found this to be true??? I’m finishing up my second round of soaking, sometimes twice a day, to rid myself of this dreaded crap.

Hi there –
It depends on how your immune system is, your shoes and socks in terms of breathe-ability, and digestion in terms of food types ingested and if you have taken the sachets internally or not.
Some people begin to get clearing and then can stop and be good to go if the immune system is strong, diet is limited in sugar intake, sachets have been taken internally for 14 days – one full sachet placed in a bit of water before dinner, and wearing breathable footwear is key – along with using diluted bleach to kill the fungus spores.
It is a full package deal that has to happen in order to get a full recovery from the fungus and not get it back again.
Doing the Beer Soak only without improving your immune system, without proper footwear, without limiting the intake of shoes will only partly work.
The Beer Soak will kill the fungus but it will regrow unless you change the other factors as well.
Hope this helps you!
Sore toes may occur if soaking too long.
Soak for a shorter duration and then make sure to Rinse off your feet in the shower and dry them off.
This will remove the white vinegar from your skin. White vinegar is quite acidic and rinsing it off after soaking is important.
Best
Dr Ben
The Beer Soak works for thick nails. It takes longer though so be prepared to soak longer – say about 3 months or so.
You may want to get them removed first surgically and then do the soak once you recover from the surgery. You will only have to soak for 1 month if you get the nails removed.

Is it okay to trim and cut away the nail as it separates from the nail bed?
Dear Sir,
I am suffering from toe fungus since 5 years, what to do.

hello,
can you use a smaller amount of this mix and it still work?
I have one nail with fungus, and this can be quite expensive using 3 beers, and 1/2 a sachet every time. I have found that I can pour 1 beer and 11 ozs of vinegar and then .7 of a teaspoon of the sachets. Do you think this will work?
thanks!
Makeen
There is much misinformation here.
Lamisil is $4 per month at Walmart, Fred Meyer, etc. It is also effective (as opposed to worthless soaking). It does not harm the liver except in a few alcoholics or hep C patients who have no business taking the med. If you don’t want to take it, that’s fine, but don’t kid yourself by soaking in beer, listerine, bleach or urine.
Gus –
At the time of publication, Lamisil was not available in generic forms – and was extremely expensive.
Lamisil does harm the liver and the FDA has warnings on it.
http://www.fda.gov/CDER/drug/advisory/sporanox-lamisil/advisory.htm
An excerpt from the FDA report:
“… Lamisil® have been associated with serious hepatic toxicity, including liver failure and death, including some cases involving patients who had neither pre-existing liver disease nor a serious underlying medical condition.”
If you are all about popping drugs to remove your symptoms, that is one thing.
It is another to post misinformation about Lamisil being safe.
Taking Lamisil does not cure the underlying problem of nail fungus.
Ask someone who has taken Lamisil only to find that their nail fungus has returned a few months later.
Why? Because the underlying cause of nail fungus still exists.
Same goes for cancer treatments. They radiate, drug or excise the cancer cells – but the underlying cause of the cancer remains.
As my oncology professor states: “Cancer is not a noun. It is a verb.”
Symptoms are not simply there to remove, cut out, kill or suppress.
Symptoms result from a process that is not functioning well and needs attention. Address the process – not the symptom.
I will continue to tell the public of safe and effective alternatives to Lamisil and other dangerous medications.
It would benefit you to have a more open mind towards alternate – and effective – methods of improving health.

Here is a more recent post on the Beer Soak –

Hi Dr Ben,
I have the dreaded fungus in four of my toenails (I have had in my big toe for ten years and over the last couple of years it has spread to the other nails) and have beer been soaking my feet religiously for three months. Things have definitely improved but it has not cleared.. in fact my nails seems to looked better about 5 weeks ago then they do now. I’m just wondering if its possible for the acidophilus to go off or for the bacteria to die off and be less effective? I live in New Zealand and had the acidophilus posted to me from the US.
Thanks
Kathryn
Dr. Ben, I appreciate your response and I agree with some of your points (about treating underlying causes, not just symptoms).
Saying that “Lamisil does harm the liver” is misleading because that is a very rare side effect. All medications have the potential for side effects. The chances of developing liver failure from taking lamisil is one in a million (http://www.ask.novartispharma.ca/download.htm?res=lamisil_scrip_e.pdf)
That’s why a doctor should have an informed discussion with their patient about risks of a treatment and let them decide.
You’re right about high recurrence with any treatment, but at least lamisil has a decent chance of working. Lots of people will say that they are excited to try the beer soaks and that they’ve used it for a week and their toes look better (nails aren’t as dry/brittle) but how many soak every day for a year and actually are cured?
I know that MDs miss the ball by prescribing pills for everything and treating symptoms only. I like the idea of naturopathy, but it overreaches and treats everything in the world, not always appropriately or effectively.
Gus –
Of course Novartis will post a very conservative number of patients having liver complications due to Lamisil. If Lamisil caused Liver Failure in only 1 out of a 1,000,000 patients, do you think the FDA would issue a public warning against Lamisil? No way.
Liver failure is a major side effect of Lamisil. However, one must also consider simple liver toxicity which prevents the liver from functioning at full potential. If the liver is not functioning properly, toxins accumulate in the body leading to symptoms of chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, chemical sensitivity and others. There is no record of these being caused from Lamisil but I assure you there are massive numbers of people who have chronic liver toxicity from Lamisil.
Toxicity of Lamisil can be reduced if one takes N-acetyl cysteine, taurine, vitamin C and other liver supportive nutrients.
Lamisil has a decent chance of working but not at the root cause. I personally took Lamisil years ago and am still recovering from the liver toxicity. My nail fungus cleared completely with Lamisil. However, within 6 months after the treatment, my nail fungus came back.
Why did the nail fungus come back?
My shoes were likely not breathable, socks were not breathable, my immune system was not functioning optimally being a medical student and under stress and I likely had unhealthy gut bacteria which needed replacing with beneficial bacteria.
Soaking everyday for a year is not needed. Soaking for a month is typically what is needed along with nutritional support for the gut, immune system and proper footwear. Maximum someone should soak is 3 months. I’ve found that if they soak for longer than one month, the new nail growing is not strong enough against the Beer Soak and gets damaged.
Naturopathy does not overreach and treat everything in the world. That is a grandiose statement which is attempting to bash for no specific reason. Naturopathy is a field of medicine which, if practiced properly, identifies that cause of the symptoms, removes the cause, and supports the body’s ability to recover by prescribing nutritional support, dietary changes and lifestyle changes.
Naturopathy does not try to treat a broken arm, perform open heart surgery, excise tumors or other conditions requiring urgent care. Naturopathy supports the individual receiving urgent care by supplying nutrition, dietary changes and lifestyle changes.
Example:
Patient goes in for chemotherapy for colon cancer. They end up with stomach pain, mouth ulcers, numbness in their feet and unable to eat. Why? Chemotherapy is neurotoxic and also damages the intestinal lining due to depletion of glutamine and folic acid. If a patient consumes glutamine and folic acid before receiving chemotherapy, the chemo side effects are greatly reduced or do not occur. It is also shown that chemotherapy is more effective with glutamine and folic acid on board.
An example of this: Individual asked me a question about mouth sores and chemotherapy – my response:
http://www.healthegoods.com/product/mouth-sores-and-chemotherapy/
You stated that ‘naturopathy overreaches and treats everything in the world, not always appropriately or effectively.’
Does standardized medicine? Which form of medicine kills more people each year?

Hi Dr. Ben –
I just wondered if you have seen this acidophilus soak permanently cure anyone of nail fungus? I have tried a few treatments that make the nail look better, but truthfully that’s of little importance to me compared with truly eradicating the fungus permanently. I have a little girl who wants to wear mommy’s shoes around the house and play dress up; it may sound trivial, but I just want to be able to do those normal things without fear of spreading fungus to her. I’ve had the fungus for about 3 years, since removing my nail polish after a pedicure and seeing that the nail had turned purple. I almost always wear flip flops – even in the winter – so I was pretty shocked to see that I had gotten a nail fungus. I am so anxious to find a way to be fully rid of this that I even investigated having the nails removed with my podiatrist (who recommends Lamisil). Before I begin a time-consuming ritual, I just wanted to know if anyone had been totally symptom free for long periods of time after completing this treatment. Also, if I do get cured, do I have to get rid of every pair of shoes I have? Or is spraying out with Lysol sufficient? I have one really nice pair of boots I’d hate to lose, but I don’t want to risk reinfection either.
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
Dr. Ben,
My 7 year old daughter has seven toes infected by a fungus. She has had this diagnosis for five years now. After diligent use of tee tree oil, Pao d’ Arco, internal acidophilus, 6 over the counter paint-ons, anti-fungal foot creams, visits to a dermatologist, podiatrist, pediatric podiatrist, general practitioner, physicians assistant, & nurse practitioner…her symptoms are still the same…seven infected toes. Weekly filing and trimming, wearing a different pair of shoes each day, using Desenex foot powder in shoes and socks, changing socks mid day, throwing away all her shoes every three months and buying new…I’m tired and my daughter is tired of this ugly pest. At age three, Dr.’s wanted to experiment on her with internal Lamisil, requiring monthly liver tests. What in the world were they thinking?! She was three years old! I am now putting all my faith into this beer soak. I purchased 42 sachets and enough Guiness Extra Stout to have a really fun party! We began tonight…wish us luck. Question: What dosage of the internal acidophilus sachet is safe for a seven year old?
My father had this nail fungus and i think it was passed onto me using the same nail clippers (when I was 5 or 6, I’m now 24), I will be starting the treatment in the next couple days and I will take before and after pictures. My nails have become VERY thick and brittle and the fungus has spread to all but three toes. Here’s hoping!
Thanks so much for posting this information… I’ll be closely documenting the results.
I saw this on the Doctors program this morning.
Hi there1
I just started the beer soak today and I’m very enthusiatic. I’m in Mexico City and can only find Pearl brand acidophilus and no sachets. It works well in my tummy (I started ingesting one a day 4 days ago). I put the pearl in the beer and vinegar mix and started the soak when I thought the pearl had completely melted but found it smaller in the mixture. I crushed it to bits and then put along with another pearl in the mixture just in case. Do you think I’m wasting my time and should wait until I go to the U.S. for sachets? What do you think?
Thanks!
